Welcome to the Great Lakes Working Group Dog Association
WHO WE ARE
Our story started in 2021. The Great Lakes Working Group Dog Association began as a group of conformation friends. Our community wanted to establish a club to promote the working dog breeds that we all love dearly. The club membership ranges from AKC and UKC judges, ring stewards, owner-handlers, professional handlers, fanciers, and breeders. We are involved in a variety of dog-related sports such as conformation, agility, rally, barn hunt, scent trial, and obedience.
We worked extremely hard towards AKC status to hold a Working Dog Specialty Show. We are thrilled to announce that we successfully held our inaugural conformation show on September 27th, 2024 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.

The Working Group
Quick to learn, dogs of the Working Group are intelligent, strong, watchful, and alert. Bred to assist humans, they excel at jobs such as guarding property, pulling sleds and performing water rescues. Doberman Pinschers, Siberian Huskies and Great Danes are part of this Group, to name just a few. They make wonderful companions but because they are large, and naturally protective, prospective owners need to know how to properly train and socialize a dog. Some breeds in the Working Group may not be for the first-time dog owner.
